The best view of the Everest without climb it...

From Kala Patthar, 5550m on the sea level.

This shot was taken this winter, 35 degrees below zero and wind 100kms per hour. I had to drag my camera and my tripod for three weeks to arrive at this point (no porter, no guide, and 18 kgs backpack...)

What I do for you guys!!!!

Have a look at my gallery for other photos of the Himalaya

Congratulations on making it so far. The experience would have been amazing. Great work on overcoming the physical aspect, the photo was certainly worth it! :D

That is so jaw droppingly beautiful! Tell me, how far can you get when you are without an experienced guide? And is there shelter anywhere in terms of villages and inns, or do you get by with solely a tent?

It depends how experienced and well informed you are. I did it without driver or porter, you'll meet lots of locals on the way with at least a basic English, if you get lost. If you keep the main trails you can rely on the local tea houses for a place to sleep and eat, but if you want to explore a bit more, you'll have to sleep in your tend sometimes.
The oxygen is not a lot and your backpack will feel much heavier then on the sea level, don't bring anything that it is not absolutely necessary (like I did with my full size tripod!!!).
